Chamber Music Festival brings tourism boost to Sligo this May Bank Holiday weekend

Sligo will be the focal point for thousands of music enthusiasts and musicians at the Inaugural Sligo International Chamber Music Festival

The Festival, which grew out of Music in Drumcliffe, is set to become Ireland’s leading chamber music festival and a highlight on the annual calendar of music events giving an annual boost to the local Sligo economy.

The festival will feature performances from the internationally critically acclaimed Vogler Quartet, the vocal ensemble Amarcord, RTÉ Contempo Quartet, Crash Quartet, Mesefe Quartet, Aoife Ní Bhriain, and double bassist and composer Caiman Gilmore of the Sun Collective.

Speaking at a recent event Festival Director, Caroline Wynne, says “Music in Drumcliffe has been in existence since 2000 and has grown steadily in that time building a loyal audience and attracting new visitors every year.  In response to the growth in popularity of the festival, Sligo County Council is introducing the new Sligo International Chamber Music Festival this year in partnership with Music Generation Sligo and we are delighted to collaborate with our new venue partner, The Model Sligo”.

Music Generation Sligo has come on board as a key partner with Sligo County Council Arts Office to develop an innovative youth programme -Tuned In! This impressive Festival Youth Programme hosts events and masterclasses on Friday and Saturday in The Model, followed by the main events in Sligo International Chamber Music Festival with the Vogler Quartet, RTÉ Contempo Quartet and amarcord.

Sligo has much to offer on the music scene and this May Bank Holiday weekend will be exceptional. Friday 29th April – Monday 2nd May 2016, at Drumcliffe Church and The Model Sligo.
