"Full of telling detail...this was a performance undertaken out of love for the music"
(Irish Times, 2016)
The RTÉ Contempo Quartet is one of the most exciting and vibrant chamber ensembles performing today. Since its formation in Bucharest in 1995, it has performed world-wide in many prestigious venues, winning numerous international prizes and working alongside artists of the highest calibre. Since 2003 the quartet has been the Galway Music Residency’s Quartet in Residence, where it has firmly established itself in a variety of genres including core classical repertoire, contemporary, folk, traditional and jazz. It was appointed as RTÉ’s Quartet in Residence in May 2014, and has already given over 120 varied performances for RTÉ.
Following its innovative Bartók Project season (2016 -17), the Quartet will perform the complete Beethoven cycle of seventeen works over nine concerts in various venues between September 2017 and May 2018. Each programme will include an Irish work ranging from Ina Boyle and Brian Boydell to Kevin Volans and Deidre Gribben, with new commissions from Raymond Deane, Deirdre McKay and Andrew Hamilton. Recordings planned include Gerald Barry’s Quartet no 1, and Midday for two string quartets (with the Vogler Quartet).
The members of the RTÉ Contempo Quartet live in Roscahill, Co. Galway, and describe themselves as “the ABBA of classical music”, Adrian and Andreea being married, as are Ingrid and Bogdan.
