Sligo International Chamber Music Festival

33 Musicians – 8 counties

33 young musicians from 8 counties will be performing in Tuned In, a youth chamber music experience curated by Professor James Cavanagh (RIAM), over the May Bank Holiday Weekend.

Music Generation students from Laois, Louth, Offaly, Westmeath and Carlow will join forces with Music Generation Sligo students for a marathon weekend of music and music-making. Students from DIT Conservatory of Music and Donegal Music Education Partnership will also be represented.

All of these talented, young musicians will take part in a series of masterclasses with world class musicians performing at the Sligo International Chamber Music Festival and will attend festival concerts throughout the festival weekend.

Music Generation Sligo Co-ordinator Rhona McGrath is very excited about the weekend and when we spoke to her today this is what she had to say “Music Generation Sligo is very pleased to host this gathering of young musicians with an interest in developing their chamber music performance. Tuned In is also a great opportunity for young people and their tutors from around the country to perform together and to experience high standards of programming and performance at Sligo International Chamber Music Festival. We are grateful to the support of Music Generation National Development Office National Projects.”

The music they will be studying and playing over the weekend include:
St Paul’s Suite – Holst
Pilgrims’ Chorus – Wagner
“Finale” – Symphony No 2 in C – Tchaikovsky
Divertimento in D – Salzburg
Spring – Vivaldi
Serenade for Strings – Tchaikovsky
